About Ms. Patricia M.
Ms. Patricia M. Cofty took an unconventional path to law. She earned a B.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1976. Nearly two decades later she returned to school at the University of New Mexico, completing both a J.D. and an M.B.A. in 1995. Her legal studies included work in contract negotiations while her graduate business degree emphasized human resources management.
Her early practice years show steady movement through varied roles that combined traditional lawyering and dispute resolution. In 2003 she worked at Emergent Technologies, then moved to Connolly Rose, LLP in 2004. The next year she took on lawyer and mediator responsibilities at Campos and Cunningham, PC. She continued that blend of litigation and mediation at Hensley Fowler Hepworth and Schwartz in 2007. In 2008 she was a senior lawyer at The Fowler Law Office, PC. In 2011 she co-founded Cofty Law, PC and has led that firm since.
Cofty’s training mirrors the mixed practice she has pursued. She holds a mediation certificate from the University of New Mexico, advanced family mediation credentials from the Dispute Resolution Center of Texas, and a binding arbitration certification from T3 Texas Arbitration Services. Those qualifications underpin a practice that regularly uses negotiation and private dispute resolution alongside courtroom filings when necessary.
She is admitted to practice in Texas and to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Her professional activities extend beyond the office. She served on numerous bar and community boards. She has been a member of the Austin Bar Association family law and alternative dispute resolution sections since 2004. She joined the boards of Texas Women Lawyers and the Travis County Women Lawyers in 2011 and 2008 respectively. She has held leadership roles in the Williamson County Bar Association and the Williamson County Christian Legal Society, acting as president of the Williamson County Bar Association beginning in 2021.
Community involvement is a consistent thread. She sits on the boards of Camp Twin Lakes YMCA and the Williamson County Teen Court; she is active in the Christian Legal Society of Austin, where she has served as vice president. The mix of bar leadership, mediation practice, and community work has shaped a practice style that emphasizes alternative dispute resolution and client counseling.
Her practice concentrates on mediation, arbitration, family law and contract matters.
