About Ms Jane

Ms Jane Ceraso built a career at the intersection of environmental science and law. She began in the sciences, earning a Master of Science in Environmental Science from Yale University in 1985. Years later she returned to school for a law degree, completing her J.D. at the Massachusetts School of Law in 2013 where she studied environmental law.

Her early professional life was rooted in public service. In the early 1990s she served as Water Quality Compliance Program Manager at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. There she handled state-level compliance work and helped implement standards that affected municipal and industrial dischargers. In 1999 she moved to the Acton Water District as Environmental Manager, overseeing water quality programs and operational compliance for a municipal system.

In 2013 she joined The Law Office of Susan J. Crane in Stow, Massachusetts, as of counsel. That role layered legal practice onto two decades of hands-on environmental management. It also gave her experience counseling local governments and private clients on permitting, enforcement response and regulatory strategy.

Ceraso now practices from the Ceraso Law Office. Her background in both laboratory-based science and regulatory operations informs her approach to cases that involve technical environmental issues. She reads permit language the way she once read sampling results. She has handled matters that require translating scientific detail into legal positions and clear regulatory advice.

Colleagues and clients see a practitioner comfortable in regulatory hearings, administrative appeals and in drafting compliance plans. Her work touches on water-quality compliance, permitting, enforcement defense and municipal consulting. She has experience advising water districts, utilities and businesses on how to meet state requirements and respond to notices of violation.

Outside practice she has remained connected to the technical side of environmental work, drawing on earlier operational roles when assessing contours of a case. That mix of science and law shapes how she prepares for hearings and how she frames negotiations.

She is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and operates from her private practice office. Her current practice concentrates on environmental regulatory matters, water quality compliance and permitting for municipal and private clients.
