About Mrs. Lucinda D.

Lucinda D. Bugden has built a career in Illinois law that spans public service and private practice. She began her legal education at Northern Illinois University, earning a B.A. in English in 1986. She stayed at Northern Illinois for law school and received her J.D. in 1988. Those years shaped the work she would later pursue: courtroom advocacy and client-centered representation.

Her early professional years included a move into public defense. In 1992 she served as First Assistant at the DeKalb County Public Defender's Office. In that role she handled trial preparation and courtroom responsibilities on behalf of clients who could not afford private representation. The position required day-to-day courtroom work, client interviews, and coordination with investigators and social service providers.

By 2005 Bugden was working as a staff lawyer for Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. There she provided legal assistance to low-income individuals and families. Her work at Prairie State exposed her to a range of civil legal issues as well as the procedural challenges that clients face when seeking help through public or nonprofit systems. The combination of criminal defense experience and civil legal services informed her approach to case evaluation and client counseling.

Later she moved into private practice and is listed as a lawyer at the Law Offices of Lucinda D. Bugden. In private practice she brings courtroom experience and knowledge of public service systems to individual clients. Colleagues and former clients have noted her steady presence in court and a straightforward manner when explaining options and likely outcomes. She is licensed to practice in Illinois and has spent her career working within that state’s courts and community resources.

Across roles in the public defender’s office, a legal services nonprofit, and private practice, Bugden has worked on matters that required both litigation skills and attention to client needs outside the courtroom. She continues to serve clients from her office in Illinois. Her current practice focuses on serving clients in Illinois in matters that reflect her background in public defense and legal services.
