About Mr. Zach V Thomas
Mr. Zach V Thomas Jr earned a B.A. in Spanish and Political Science from Vanderbilt University in 2000. Four years later he completed his legal education at the University of Kansas, receiving his J.D. in 2004. Those early academic choices pointed toward a career that combines courtroom work with community connections.
He began practicing law in the late 2000s. In 2009 he joined The Ronan Law Office as an associate. A year later he moved to Franke Schultz & Mullen, again as an associate, gaining time in private practice and exposure to the demands of client representation. In 2012 he shifted into public defense work when he became an Assistant District Defender at the Johnson County Public Defender's Office. That role placed him in court regularly and deepened his work on criminal cases.
In 2014 he opened his own firm, the Law Office of Zach V. Thomas. Running a small practice changed his day-to-day responsibilities. He split time between client intake, case strategy, motion practice and appearances in state court. Managing a practice also required attention to administrative matters and local court procedures.
Outside the office he has been active in professional groups. Since 2016 he has held memberships in the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and the Johnson County Bar Association. He has been involved with the Vanderbilt Alumni Association in Kansas City since 2013 and serves as the Kansas City chapter president. His association with the Asian Bar Association goes back to 2005, where he has participated on the board.
Those memberships reflect a steady presence in the local legal community. He appears regularly at regional bar events and stays engaged in alumni and affinity networks. His time in both private and public roles gives him a perspective on how local courts operate and how defense counsel prepare cases in the two-state area where he practices.
Mr. Thomas is licensed to practice in Kansas and Missouri. His background in public defense informs the types of matters he often handles. He represents clients in state courts, managing cases from arraignment through trial or resolution. He continues to maintain ties to city and county bar associations and to the Vanderbilt alumni community.
He currently concentrates his practice on criminal defense and related state-court matters, representing clients in both Kansas and Missouri.
