About Mr. Stephen A.

Stephen A. Sauer began his professional path at the University of Memphis, where he earned a B.A. in Business Administration in 1983. He went on to receive his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1988. Those academic years set the groundwork for a career spent largely in Tennessee courts and on federal dockets within the Sixth Circuit.

Soon after law school he entered private practice. Records show him working at Clemons & Taube in 1992. Over the next decade he moved into other firm roles, joining Shuttleworth, Williams PLLC in 2003. Two years later he opened his own practice. Since 2005 he has listed his office as Stephen A. Sauer, Lawyer at Law. The progression is steady: associate roles early on, then the shift to sole practitioner.

Sauer has maintained ties to the Memphis legal community for decades. He has been a member of the Memphis Bar Association since 1992, a span that overlaps his time at two firms and his years as a solo lawyer. That membership places him in the region’s professional networks and local bar activities, where many attorneys exchange referrals and practical courtroom insights.

He is authorized to practice in Tennessee and in the Sixth Circuit. Those jurisdictions have shaped the kinds of matters he accepts. Over time his docket has reflected both state-court filings and cases that require attention on a federal level. His firm’s description emphasizes handling matters that arise in the region he serves.

Colleagues and clients will find a lawyer who has moved through traditional firm roles into independent practice. He carries forward experience from earlier positions into the management of his own office. Running a solo practice since 2005 has meant handling case intake, client counseling, and courtroom appearances. Those responsibilities form the day-to-day work of his office.

Today he practices under the name Stephen A. Sauer, Lawyer at Law. He maintains a general practice through that firm, representing clients in matters filed in Tennessee and when appropriate in the Sixth Circuit.
