About Mr Rick
Mr Rick Abelmann began his legal path at Washington University in St. Louis and went on to earn his law degree from Washington University School of Law. He spent his student years in St. Louis, where coursework and clinics shaped an interest in litigation and client-centered representation. Those academic years provided the foundation for a practice that would cross sectors and coasts.
After law school, his first recorded position was as an associate at Clifford Chance in 2005. He moved into the financial sector a year later, serving as an associate at Morgan Stanley in 2006. Those early roles exposed him to complex transactions and institutional settings. They also gave him experience working on teams handling large-scale commercial matters and regulatory considerations.
In 2009 he became principal of Abelmann Rollins, LLC. That move marked a shift from large organizations to a practice where he could direct case strategy and client services. As principal, he has overseen cases, managed client intake and guided litigation and resolution efforts. His leadership role has included mentoring younger lawyers and coordinating work across matters that touch both personal and commercial financial issues.
He is admitted to practice in New York and Hawaii. His bar memberships include participation in the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, which he joined in 2009, and the Hawaii State Bar Association AIDS Legal Clinic, also beginning in 2009. His continued memberships suggest ongoing involvement in both consumer bankruptcy circles and clinic-based legal services.
Colleagues describe his work style as pragmatic. He tends to approach cases by breaking complex problems into discrete steps. That method shows in how matters are prepared and presented, and in the way clients are counseled about options and likely outcomes. His background in both a global law firm and a major financial institution gives him perspective on how different players approach disputes and restructuring.
Outside of firm administration, his practice has handled matters that touch on consumer insolvency and related areas of financial law. He has balanced direct client representation with institutional knowledge gained earlier in his career. He has maintained clinic involvement in Hawaii while running firm affairs from his principal role.
His current practice focuses on consumer bankruptcy matters and related financial litigation.
