About Mr. Michael O.
Mr. Michael O. Stevens built his path to law from two pieces of clear training: a history degree from Oregon State University and a law degree from Willamette University College of Law. He completed his undergraduate studies in history in the late 1990s and earned his J.D. in 2009. Those years set the stage for a career spent largely in state and federal practice within Oregon.
After law school, Stevens moved into the private sector. In 2010 he joined Liberty Mutual’s Field Legal department. He spent that period working inside a large insurance company’s legal operations, gaining exposure to policy and claims-related legal work over several years. In 2015 he left that role and became a shareholder and lawyer at Stevens & Legal, the firm where he remains an owner and a practicing attorney.
Stevens is admitted to practice in Oregon and in the federal courts that serve the state. His credentials include admission to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. He is an active participant in the local legal community and maintains memberships in several bar and trial organizations.
His association history reflects a blend of trial and professional interests. He has belonged to the Oregon State Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Rights Section since 2009. He joined the Washington County Bar Association and the National Trial Lawyers in 2016, and became a member of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association in 2017. For a short period he was a member of the American Bar Association from 2015 to 2017.
Colleagues describe Stevens as steady in the courtroom and methodical in preparing matters for trial. He balances trial work with case preparation and client counseling at his firm. Over time he has developed familiarity with procedural and appellate matters through his federal admissions and through participation in trial-focused organizations.
He maintains an office in Oregon and continues practicing from that base. Today, Stevens carries a dual role as an owner and active practitioner at Stevens & Legal. His current practice focuses on civil litigation and matters that intersect with intellectual property in the Oregon courts and federal forums where he is admitted to appear.
