About Mr. J. Davis
Mr. J. Davis Connor has built a long legal career that spans classrooms and courtrooms. He began his academic journey at the University of California - San Diego, where he earned a B.A. in History in 1973. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of San Diego in 1979. Decades later he returned to formal study, completing an M.A. in Foreign Language Education at the University of Iowa in 2006.
Connor’s early legal work moved quickly into litigation. He joined Erdman, Boggs & Harkins, P.A. as an associate in 1982, taking on civil matters and the courtroom work that comes with them. By 1985 he had shifted into public defense as a trial lawyer with the Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc. There he handled federal criminal matters and gained practical trial experience defending clients at the trial level.
Two years later Connor changed course again, joining Peterson & Myers, P.A. as a shareholder in 1987. His role at the firm expanded his responsibilities to include management and case supervision as well as continuing to try cases. Over time he handled a range of litigation matters at both state and federal levels. His work brought a steady mix of motion practice, evidentiary hearings and jury trials.
Outside the office Connor spent time in legal education. In 2008 he served as adjunct faculty at the University of Iowa College of Law. That appointment put him back in an academic setting alongside practicing lawyers and law students. He has balanced teaching and practice at different points in his career, a combination that has kept him engaged with both emerging legal scholarship and everyday courtroom procedure.
Today Connor remains based at Peterson & Myers, P.A. He brings decades of courtroom experience to his cases and continues to handle trial litigation and criminal defense matters. His current practice centers on litigating contested matters for clients in both state and federal courts.
