About Mr. Gary A.
Mr. Gary A. Newland trained at Loyola University Chicago, earning an S.J.D. in Political Science, History and Law in 1987 and a B.A. in 1990. His academic record shows an interest in the intersection of law and broader social ideas. He supplemented classroom study with early committee work and local bar involvement that would shape his later career.
He entered private practice in the 1990s and has remained there since. In 1994 he became a partner at Newland, Newland & Newland. That partnership evolved over time, and in 2011 he took a partner role at Newland & Newland LLP. Those positions placed him in firms that handle a range of contested matters and kept him engaged in courtroom work and firm management.
Licenses list Illinois and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He has carried professional responsibilities beyond his practice. He serves as Vice-President of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association and holds the same title in the Suburban Bar Coalition. He has been Co-Chair of the Civil Committee of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association since 2011. He has been a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association since 2007. Those roles put him in frequent contact with fellow litigators, judges and court administrators.
Colleagues describe him as someone who spends a lot of time on courtroom preparation and on issues that affect how civil cases move through local courts. His long-standing role on the civil committee ties him to procedural and case-management conversations at the county level. He also handles appellate work that requires familiarity with federal practice, as indicated by his admission to the Seventh Circuit.
He divides his practice across multiple office locations. The firm maintains offices in Chicago, Libertyville and Itasca. That geographic spread allows him to appear in suburban and metropolitan courts and to meet clients at several points across the region.
Outside litigation, he contributes to bar programming and committee work that shapes local civil practice. He continues to hold leadership posts in regional bar groups while practicing at Newland & Newland LLP. He currently practices at Newland & Newland LLP, where his work centers on civil litigation.
