About Mr. David R.
Mr. David R. Badger built his legal foundation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in English, History and Political Science in 1969, then stayed at Chapel Hill for his law degree, earning a J.D. in 1972. Those years framed the early arc of a career that has centered on bankruptcy law and courtroom practice.
He moved quickly from education into practice. In 1972 he assumed the presidency of David R. Badger, P.A., the firm that carries his name. Over the decades he has maintained an active role there, shaping the firm's approach to consumer and business insolvency work. He is admitted to practice before the North Carolina courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court, reflecting a practice that has reached beyond state lines to federal appellate and national levels.
Bankruptcy law is the spine of his work. He holds certification as a Consumer Bankruptcy Specialist from the North Carolina State Bar and as a Business Bankruptcy Specialist from both the North Carolina State Bar and the American Board of Certification. Those credentials mark a sustained investment in the technical and procedural aspects of insolvency practice. He has also been involved in professional organizations tied to bankruptcy and trial practice, including active membership in the American Bankruptcy Institute and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He served as chairman of the Bankruptcy Section of the North Carolina Bar Association from 1985 to 1986, a post that placed him in the middle of state-level policy discussions and bar activities during that period.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who emphasizes careful preparation and an understanding of both creditor and debtor positions. His courtroom work has required routine appearances in bankruptcy courts and occasional appellate filings. Outside the courtroom he has engaged in the professional associations that shape bankruptcy practice, attending meetings and contributing to the professional dialogue on bankruptcy procedure and standards.
Now in practice at David R. Badger, P.A., he continues to handle bankruptcy matters for individuals and businesses. His current practice concentrates on consumer and business bankruptcy representation, combining certified specialization and long experience in the field.
