About Mr. David A.
Mr. David A. Harston built his academic foundation at the University of Denver, where he earned a Master of Arts in International Studies in 1994 and a Juris Doctor in 1996. He completed his undergraduate studies in history and philosophy at Allegheny College in 1985. Those years shaped a path from the humanities into law, combining a broad perspective on international affairs with legal training.
He entered the profession in the late 1990s. In 1999 he worked as an associate at the Law Office of Rumi Engineer. The next year he joined Carter & Alterman as an associate lawyer. Those early years were spent learning litigation and client counseling in firm settings and preparing to take on expanding responsibilities.
By 2007 he had moved into partnership, joining Stern Elkind Curray & Alterman LLP as a partner. Three years later he became a partner and president of Elkind Alterman Harston PC. The shift to firm leadership brought administrative duties alongside casework. He remained in practice while taking on the management tasks that come with running a law firm.
Mr. Harston has also been active in professional organizations. He served on the executive committee of the Colorado Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association from 2004 to 2009. Since 2009 he has been a member of the Immigration Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association’s executive council and has held the chair role during that period. Those positions placed him in regular contact with peers and the state bar on matters affecting immigration law practice.
His work is rooted in immigration law. Over the course of his career he has maintained practice at firms that handle immigration matters and has participated in bar activities that focus on immigration policy and practitioner issues. He combines courtroom and office experience developed over decades of client representation and firm leadership.
Today he practices at Elkind Alterman Harston PC in Colorado. He continues to handle immigration matters and to balance casework with the responsibilities of firm leadership. He practices immigration law at Elkind Alterman Harston PC.
