About Morris Mo Hugh Wiltshire
Morris Mo Hugh Wiltshire Jr. completed his undergraduate studies in political science at Millsaps College in 1988 and earned his Juris Doctor from The University of Georgia School of Law in 1991. He is licensed to practice in Georgia and built a career that moves between public service and private practice.
Early in his career he worked in the prosecutor’s offices that handle circuit-level matters. In 1994 he served as Assistant District Lawyer for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit. He joined private practice in 1997 as a lawyer with Garcia & Powell and became a partner in 2000 at Garcia Rose & Wiltshire. In 2004 he returned to public work as Solicitor-General for the State Court of Clarke County, a role that put him squarely in charge of misdemeanor and ordinance prosecutions in that court. He re-entered private partnership in 2007 at Prior Daniel & Wiltshire and in 2018 launched Wiltshire Defense, where he practices under his own name.
That mix of prosecution and defense experience shapes how he approaches cases. He has handled matters at trial and in pretrial settings. His record of peer and client recognition includes an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a 10.0 rating on Avvo, selection to Super Lawyers, and inclusion among the Top 100 Criminal Defense Lawyers by The National Trial Lawyers Association. He is also listed in the National Association of Distinguished Counsel’s Nation’s Top 1% listings.
Peers see him as a lawyer who understands courtroom dynamics. He has argued motions, tried cases to juries, and handled plea negotiations. His resume shows steady courtroom work across county and state courts in Georgia, and he remains active in professional groups tied to criminal defense and trial practice.
He maintains memberships in the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the State Bar of Georgia. He is also a member of the National Academy of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Society of Legal Advocates, the National Advocacy for DUI Defense, and The National Trial Lawyers, where he has been listed among the Top 100 since 2013. Those affiliations provide regular contact with peers and continuing legal education in rapidly changing areas of criminal law.
