About Miye

Miye Goishi trained first as a scientist and later as a lawyer. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of California, San Diego in 1975, then went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1981. That combination of scientific and legal education informs her approach to teaching and scholarship.

Her career moved into legal education. She serves as a Professor of Law at UC Law San Francisco, where she teaches and mentors law students. In the classroom she is known for a clear, methodical style. She supervises research projects and participates in academic programs, helping students translate complex legal principles into practical work.

Goishi’s background in biology gives her a particular comfort with technical material. That training allows her to read scientific studies and regulatory texts with ease. Colleagues and students note that she brings an analytical eye to matters that cross science and law. Her work in the academy often touches on subjects where factual detail matters, and she encourages precise thinking in legal analysis.

She maintains an active membership in the California State Bar. That affiliation anchors her practice and teaching in the standards and rules that govern lawyers in California. Outside the classroom she has been involved in curricular development and academic service at UC Law San Francisco. She has also taken part in panels and university events that explore the intersections of law, policy, and technical subjects.

Goishi’s career spans several decades of legal education and institutional service. She has taught generations of students and played a role in shaping program offerings at UC Law San Francisco. Her work emphasizes clarity, careful reasoning, and the practical demands of legal work. She currently teaches at UC Law San Francisco and concentrates on teaching, mentoring students, and scholarly work.
