About Mitchell

Mitchell Horwitz graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1976 and earned his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 1979. He is admitted to practice in Illinois. His educational path placed him in Chicago at a moment when the city's courts and legal community were changing rapidly. He stayed in the region and continued his professional life there.

Early in his career he became involved in trial and bar organizations. He holds membership in the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He also belongs to the Illinois Workers Compensation Lawyers Association. Those affiliations have kept him connected to colleagues across the state and to developments in litigation and workers' compensation practice.

Horwitz's courtroom experience and organizational ties inform the kinds of matters he handles. He works on civil litigation and represents clients in disputes that proceed to hearings or trial. He also handles workplace injury claims and related proceedings, drawing on his participation in the state's workers' compensation community. His practice involves preparation for trial, case investigation, depositions and advocacy before administrative bodies as well as in circuit courts.

Colleagues describe him as a steady presence in litigation settings. He has taken cases through contested hearings and jury trials, and he handles pretrial strategy as well as courtroom presentation. He values clear lines of communication with clients and focuses on presenting issues in ways judges and juries can understand. He has kept an active role in professional groups that track changes in evidence rules, trial procedure and workers' compensation law.

Horwitz maintains offices in Chicago and in Joliet. From those locations he accepts matters across Illinois and appears in regional courts when cases require in-person advocacy. He balances court appearances with client consultations, case preparation and work before administrative agencies.

Across a long career that began after law school, Horwitz has remained involved in the practical work of litigation and in the professional organizations that shape trial practice in Illinois. He currently practices out of his Chicago and Joliet offices, handling civil litigation and workers' compensation matters in Illinois.
