About Mike
Mike Bothwell graduated from Brigham Young University with a J.D. in 1991 after beginning law studies around 1988. He entered the profession at a time when courtroom experience and clerkships were common launch points for young attorneys. The degree set the stage for a career that moved quickly from the courthouse to private practice.
His first position after law school was a clerkship for Judge Freeman in 1991. The year spent behind the bench gave him regular exposure to written opinions, motion practice and the rhythm of a federal docket. It was an education in procedure as much as in law.
Bothwell moved into private practice soon after. In 1992 he worked as an associate at Hishon & Burbage. By 1994 he was at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP, where he carried a lawyer’s caseload and worked alongside more senior litigators. Those early years built his familiarity with firm life and the demands of client representation.
Colleagues from that period remember him as pragmatic and focused on the work at hand. He handled case preparation, discovery and courtroom appearances. The record shows steady engagement with litigation tasks rather than courtroom theatrics. That practical approach guided his choices as he transitioned from large firms toward establishing his own practice presence.
He maintains membership in professional organizations and participates in the routines of bar life. He has continued to practice through changing legal markets and an evolving regulatory environment. The path from clerkship to big-firm practice to private practice is one that many attorneys take, but it shaped his sense of which matters require close attention and which require steady process.
Today Bothwell practices at The Bothwell Law Group. He operates a private practice that grew out of his years in firm settings and his early work on the bench. His day-to-day work centers on representing clients and managing litigation and transactional matters through The Bothwell Law Group, where he focuses his practice on handling client matters at the firm.
