About Michael

Michael Zigismund blends courtroom experience and appellate training in a practice that crosses immigration and federal litigation. He entered law with an interest in how policy and procedure affect individuals. That interest grew into a career that moves between trial-level immigration matters and appellate briefs.

He earned his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he studied criminal appeals. Before law school he completed a B.A. at Tufts University, majoring in international relations and political science and studying music. The combination of those subjects informs the way he frames legal questions—attentive to rules, context, and the human stories behind cases.

Zigismund began his post-law-school work as a solo practitioner. In 2016 he launched the Law Office of Michael Zigismund and handled a range of matters that exposed him to client counseling, case preparation, and courtroom advocacy. Running a solo practice supplied practical lessons in managing files, deadlines, and direct client contact.

In 2018 he joined The Law Offices of Robert Tsigler as an associate lawyer and became director of the immigration law department. In that role he oversaw department matters and handled individual cases. He has experience preparing briefs, arguing petitions, and coordinating strategy where removal defense and federal litigation intersect. The position required translating complex immigration statutes into clear legal claims under tight time pressures.

He is admitted to practice in New York and in several federal courts and circuits, including the 2nd Circuit and the 3rd Circuit, as well as the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Those admissions allow him to file appeals and represent clients in federal district courts and appellate panels. His appellate training from Cardozo has fed into his work on federal appeals and post-conviction questions that arise alongside immigration issues.

Colleagues describe Zigismund as methodical in legal research and straightforward in client communications. He approaches cases by identifying the dispositive legal questions and then building factual narratives that support those arguments. He has handled both individual immigration proceedings and matters that touch on criminal records and their immigration consequences.

He practices at The Law Offices of Robert Tsigler, where he works on immigration matters and related federal appellate work across the courts where he is admitted to appear.
