During his time at Santa Clara University, he developed a strong foundation in bankruptcy law, which has been central to his legal career.
Mr. Malter's practice areas include Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy, consumer bankruptcy, debtor-creditor rights, asset protection planning, distressed real estate, tax disputes, and creditor negotiations and work-outs. He has also appeared before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In addition to his private practice, he has served as an adjunct faculty member at Santa Clara University School of Law since 1985, teaching courses in bankruptcy law and guest lecturing on topics such as employer rights in bankruptcy.
Mr. Malter is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Santa Clara County Bar Association, and the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Sections of the Santa Clara and San Francisco Bar Associations. He co-founded the Congressman Don Edwards Bankruptcy Inn of Court in San Jose and served as its first president.
