About Michael T.
Michael T. Smith trained as a historian before he trained as a lawyer. He earned a B.A. in History and Classical Humanities from The George Washington University in 1996, then returned to the Pacific Northwest for a J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2003. He later gained admission to the Washington bar in 2007 and has maintained membership in the Washington State Bar since then.
His early years in practice began as an associate lawyer at Davies Pearson, P.C., where he worked beginning in 2007. That role introduced him to firm-side practice and the routines of litigation and client counseling. In 2013 he moved to Tuell & Young, P.S., continuing as a lawyer and expanding the range of matters he handled. In 2020 he joined Luce & Associates, P.S., where he is listed as a lawyer in the firm's Tacoma office.
Outside of firm work, Smith has been active in civic and professional organizations. He has been a member of the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar since 2007. He served on the board of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce from 2010 to 2016 and was on the board of Tacoma Opera from 2007 to 2012. Between 2007 and 2013 he held membership as a fellow in the National Association of Dealer Counsel. Those roles reflect an engagement with both the legal community and local institutions over the course of his career.
