About Michael
Michael Sutton graduated from DePauw University in 1979 and earned his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1982. He joined the bar early in his career and began building a practice that spans both Kentucky and Ohio. His educational background set a steady foundation for a multi-decade legal career.
Sutton’s early years in practice included a stint at Frost Brown Todd in 1986. He moved to Graydon Law in 1989, where he worked as a lawyer and gained experience in a larger firm environment. In 1992 he became a partner at Sutton Rankin Law, plc, a move that marked his transition into firm leadership. Later, in 2015, he joined Raines, Dusing & Sutton PLLC as a partner, where he continues to work.
Over the course of his career Sutton has maintained active membership in regional bar organizations. He is a long-standing member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the Northern Kentucky Bar Association, both since 1982, and he joined the Cincinnati Bar Association in 1983. Those memberships reflect steady engagement with the legal communities on both sides of the Ohio River.
He is admitted to practice in Kentucky and Ohio, and he is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. In addition to his litigation credentials, Sutton holds certification as a Court of Justice Mediator and Civil Mediator through the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts. That credential has allowed him to serve in mediations overseen by the state court system.
Sutton’s practice combines courtroom work and alternative dispute resolution. He has represented clients in state and federal matters and serves as a court-certified civil mediator. Colleagues and opposing counsel have encountered him in trials, appeals, and settlement conferences across the Sixth Circuit and in state courts in both Kentucky and Ohio.
He is currently a partner at Raines, Dusing & Sutton PLLC, where he continues to represent clients and serve as a mediator. His current practice focuses on civil mediation and representation in state and federal courts.
