Michael Rikon was a attorney specializing in condemnation and real estate law in New York City. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1969. He began his legal career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of New York, serving from 1969 to 1973 as a senior trial attorney in the Condemnation Division. From 1973 to 1980, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Albert A — Blinder of the New York State Court of Claims. In 1980, he established his own private practice focusing on condemnation law, real estate, and litigation in the Court of Claims. In 1994, he merged his firm with Samuel Goldstein and Sons, forming Goldstein, Rikon, Rikon & Houghton, P.C. He passed away on April 24, 2024.
Throughout his career, Mr. Rikon was deeply involved in the development of New York's Eminent Domain Procedure Law. He served as a special consultant to the New York State Commission on Eminent Domain in 1973 and 1974, assisting in drafting the law. He was also a frequent lecturer on topics related to eminent domain law, the valuation of private property. Regulatory takings, contributing to professional and legal journals on these subjects. Mr. Rikon was a member of several professional organizations, including the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the New York City Bar Association.
He served as Vice-Chairman of the Condemnation Committee of the ABA Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law. He was also a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the New York Trial Lawyers Academy. In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Rikon was active in public and charitable activities. He served as President of the Village Greens Home-Owners Association, Chairman of the Board of the Arden Heights Jewish Center, and President of the North Shore Republican Club. He also served on the Zoning Committee of his Community Board. Mr.
Rikon earned his Bachelor of Science from the New York Institute of Technology and his Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School. He later obtained a Master of Laws in Advanced Property from New York University School of Law. Mr. Rikon is survived by his son, Joshua Rikon, who continues his legacy in the field of condemnation and real estate law.
