About Michael

Michael Lincoln earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1991 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Southeast Missouri State University in 1984. Those years of formal study gave him foundations in both legal analysis and business concepts. He has combined those strands throughout a long career in private practice.

After law school he entered practice and over the ensuing decades built a career split between courtroom work and counseling clients on transactional matters. He is admitted to practice in Virginia and in the District of Columbia. His professional path led him to a partnership at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, where he has worked with colleagues on an array of client matters.

Colleagues describe Lincoln as deliberate in his approach. He favors careful preparation and steady advocacy. His background in business administration informs how he assesses commercial problems and structures legal solutions. He has represented businesses and individuals in matters that require both legal insight and an understanding of commercial realities.

Throughout his career he has worked across matters that require coordination among lawyers, accountants and other advisers. He has experience guiding clients through negotiations and in preparing documents that govern business relationships. His practice has required attention to detail and a readiness to explain complex points in straightforward language.

Outside of casework he has participated in firm governance and mentoring younger lawyers. He has also maintained admissions in two jurisdictions, which allows him to take on matters that cross the Virginia–District of Columbia boundary. That dual admission has shaped the mix of clients and matters he handles.

Now a partner at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, Lincoln brings more than three decades of legal practice to his work. He continues to handle matters for clients who need representation in Virginia and the District of Columbia. He currently focuses his practice on matters in Virginia and the District of Columbia.
