About Michael L.

Michael L. Freeman earned a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law in 2007 after completing an undergraduate degree in economics at Middle Tennessee State University in 2006. He moved from the study of markets into the study of law at a moment when both disciplines were under heavy public scrutiny. The shift shaped a practical approach to complex problems.

At Mississippi College School of Law he completed the requirements for a J.D. in 2007. Those years in law school coincided with a period of change in legal education and practice. He left with the credential that would allow him to practice in Tennessee and pursue matters that could reach the federal appellate level.

Following law school, Freeman began practicing in Tennessee. His career has been rooted in the state where he studied and now practices. Over time he established a record of handling matters that involve multiple court levels, including filings before federal appellate judges.

Freeman is admitted to the Tennessee bar and to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. That combination means he handles cases that start in state courts and, when appropriate, proceed to federal appellate review. His work requires attention to procedural rules at both the trial and appellate stages.

Colleagues describe him as deliberate in court filings and careful in oral argument preparation. He tends to favor clear, direct briefs and hearings that stick to the strongest legal and factual points. Clients who need representation in state court matters or who face potential appeals to the Sixth Circuit are the sorts of matters that occupy his practice.

Across his career he has balanced the demands of trial-level litigation and appellate practice. He continues to practice in Tennessee and to appear before the Sixth Circuit when cases warrant appellate attention. His current practice centers on representing clients in matters in Tennessee and in appeals that proceed to the Sixth Circuit.
