About Michael
Michael Kuzma built his legal foundation in the classroom. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2005. He then completed two law degrees, receiving a J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2009 where he studied business, corporate and tax law, and a J.D. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2010 with coursework in tax law, business law and business transactions.
His early years in the profession mixed traditional firm training and public-sector experience. After a 2008 clerkship at Keating O Gara Nedved & Peter, he worked as a summer associate at Ernst & Young in 2009. In 2010 he joined KPMG as a tax lawyer. The following year he moved into economic development, serving as an international development manager for the State of Nebraska’s Department of Economic Development. Those roles exposed him to both the technical side of tax practice and the practical concerns of business and public policy.
Kuzma returned to law practice in the litigation and complex-matter sphere in 2012 when he joined Berger Montague, P.C. Over time he handled matters that intersected corporate, tax and transactional issues. In 2018 he moved to MoginRubin, LLP, continuing work on business-related disputes and disputes that raised tax questions. Since 2021 he has served as senior counsel at Hilgers Graben PLLC, where he advises on regulatory, transactional and tax matters for clients operating in Nebraska and beyond.
Outside of day-to-day practice he has been involved in advisory roles. He has served as a senior advisor on the CJK Advisory Board since 2013. He also holds membership in the Nebraska Bar Association dating to 2010. Those engagements reflect an interest in governance and policy as well as client work.
Kuzma’s background combines private accounting-firm tax practice, state-level economic development work and litigation experience at national firms. That mix informs how he approaches client problems: attention to technical tax detail, awareness of business objectives and an eye for how regulatory choices play out in practice. He is admitted to practice in Nebraska and applies his training in business, corporate and tax law to matters that arise in the state and in regional transactions.
He is currently senior counsel at Hilgers Graben PLLC, where his practice focuses on tax and business law matters in Nebraska.
