About Michael Keith
Michael Keith Pence earned his B.A. from Western Kentucky University in 2001 and completed his J.D. at Nashville School of Law in 2006. He is licensed to practice in Tennessee and has spent his career building a trial practice in that state.
He moved into private practice soon after law school and became a partner in Roberts, Thornton & Pence in 2009. A decade later he took ownership at Thornton & Pence in 2019. His career has included both partnership responsibilities and firm leadership, roles that combined casework, client intake and the administrative demands of running a small firm. The offices associated with his name appear under Michael K Pence Injury Law.
Pence has belonged to a number of professional organizations. He has been listed in The National Trial Lawyers since 2009 and has served on the board of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association since that same year. He joined Americas Top 100 Lawyers in 2014 and NAOPIA in 2016. He also holds memberships in the Nashville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Tennessee Association for Justice.
Throughout his career he has handled civil litigation arising from serious accidents and injurious events. He represents clients in cases that involve physical injury and related losses. Much of his work involves preparing cases for settlement talks and, when necessary, taking them to trial. He has experience guiding cases through pretrial investigation, discovery and courtroom proceedings.
Colleagues describe his role as that of a trial attorney who carries file responsibility from opening to resolution. He manages client relationships, works with experts and drafts the pleadings and motions that move a case forward. The mix of negotiation and courtroom work accounts for much of his day-to-day practice.
Pence balances casework with involvement in professional associations that focus on trial practice and plaintiff advocacy. Those memberships have provided networking and continuing education outlets that align with his litigation calendar. He currently practices at Michael K Pence Injury Law, where he handles injury and related civil litigation matters.
