About Michael John

Michael John Faehner built his legal foundation through a mix of liberal arts, business and specialized tax study. He studied history and finance at the University of Notre Dame, earned his law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law and later completed an LL.M. in Tax at the University of Florida. Those credentials shape the directions his work has taken.

His undergraduate years produced both a B.A. in History and a B.B.A. in Finance from Notre Dame. The sequence gives him a perspective that blends numbers and narrative. He went on to Valparaiso for his J.D., where he trained in general legal doctrine and litigation. He returned to school for an advanced tax degree at the University of Florida, adding formal study of federal tax law and policy.

Admission to practice came in several forums. He is admitted in Florida. He is also admitted to appear before the United States Tax Court and the United States Supreme Court. Those admissions reflect the range of matters he has pursued and the courts in which he can represent clients.

Faehner’s work centers on tax matters, both contentious and transactional. He handles federal tax litigation and advises on tax planning and compliance. The combination of an LL.M. in Tax and courtroom admissions positions him to navigate cases that involve technical tax questions and procedural issues in federal tax tribunals. He also draws on his finance background when addressing business tax problems and structuring transactions.

Clients encounter him at Faehner PLLC, where he maintains his practice. He represents individuals and entities before tax authorities and in court proceedings when necessary. His approach is methodical: analyze the statutory landscape, consider the financial consequences and present the legal arguments clearly at each stage. He has worked on matters that require both negotiated resolutions and formal litigation.

Outside of casework, he keeps up with developments in tax law through continuing education and legal scholarship. He sees tax law as an area where detail matters. That attention to detail guides how he prepares filings, advises clients and argues matters before tax tribunals. He currently practices at Faehner PLLC and handles federal tax litigation, tax planning and related tax counseling.
