About Michael J.

Michael J. McGinley earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1971 and later returned to study law, receiving his J.D. from New York Law School in 1985. Those two degrees bookend a long period of professional life and provide a foundation in both analytical thinking and the law.

After completing law school he became part of the legal community in North Carolina. He is admitted to the bar in that state and maintains current membership in the North Carolina State Bar. He also holds membership in the Mecklenburg County Bar Association, signaling professional ties to that local bar community.

McGinley’s career spans decades during which the practice of law and the business of clients evolved considerably. He trained in a pre-digital era of legal work and has practiced through periods of significant change in procedure, technology and court administration. That background gives him perspective on how long-standing legal principles apply to contemporary problems.

Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic in his approach. He brings methodical preparation to client matters and emphasizes clear communication. He has handled legal tasks that require careful factual development and attention to procedural detail. Those are qualities often prized in courtroom work, transactional matters and regulatory proceedings alike.

Outside of casework, McGinley has remained connected to the local bar. Membership in the Mecklenburg County Bar Association and the North Carolina State Bar keeps him engaged with continuing education opportunities and local professional standards. He participates in the routines of bar life that sustain a working practice—attending meetings, staying current on rule changes and maintaining professional contacts.

Now in 2026, his legal training from New York Law School and earlier studies in economics inform a practice shaped by several decades of change. He continues to serve clients in North Carolina and remains active in the state’s professional community. He currently practices law in North Carolina, representing clients in matters across the state legal system.
