About Michael J.

Michael J. Levinsohn combines a business undergraduate degree and a law degree in a practice shaped by both disciplines. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Boston University in 1990 and a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in 1994. Those two educational tracks appear in his approach to legal problems: one eye on commercial realities, the other on legal doctrine.

After law school, Levinsohn built a practice in Illinois. Over the years he has practiced in state courts and in federal forum settings. He is admitted to the Illinois bar and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Those admissions have allowed him to handle matters that move between trial courts and appellate review.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases. He integrates transactional and litigation perspectives when advising clients. His business training informs contract analysis and corporate issues. His litigation work has included repeated appearances in Illinois courtrooms and filings in federal court, including appellate work in the Seventh Circuit.

Levinsohn’s work style favors careful preparation and clear written advocacy. He has spent time refining briefs and motions, and he places emphasis on presenting concise arguments in court. Clients who work with him can expect attention to both procedural detail and underlying business implications. He balances litigation posture with pragmatic assessment of outcomes.

Outside of court, Levinsohn has maintained involvement in continuing legal education and professional development typical for practitioners admitted in multiple venues. He keeps up with changes in appellate practice and state procedural rules. That ongoing attention supports his handling of matters that may proceed from trial to appeal.

Now practicing in Illinois, Levinsohn concentrates his work on matters arising in the state and on appeals in the Seventh Circuit. He continues to represent clients across state and federal court dockets and to pursue resolution by litigation or other means where appropriate.
