About Michael J.
Michael J. Giarrusso studied history at Princeton University before turning to law. He earned his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. Those two schools shaped a practice that balances attention to narrative with an eye for detail.
After law school he entered practice in the New York–New Jersey corridor. He is admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey and also to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. That mix of state and federal admissions allows him to handle matters that cross jurisdictional lines.
In court he has handled filings, motions and oral arguments. He prepares court papers and appears before judges in state and federal forums. He also advises clients on procedural strategy, document preparation and case management. He is known among colleagues for a methodical approach to case files and for translating complex legal materials into clear written work.
Colleagues and clients describe his style as straightforward. He tends to favor concise pleadings and practical timelines. When cases require negotiation he seeks to identify leverage points early. When litigation is necessary he presses the record and builds legal arguments designed to be durable on appeal.
At Giarrusso Law Group LLC he works on matters arising in both New York and New Jersey courts. The firm handles litigation that reaches into federal court as well. His dual admissions are central to that practice, allowing him to move between state and federal dockets as a matter requires.
Outside the courtroom he contributes to case strategy, client counseling and pretrial preparation. He draws on his history training when assembling narratives for trial, and on his legal education when structuring legal theories and procedural tactics. He currently practices at Giarrusso Law Group LLC, representing clients in state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey.
