About Michael J.
Michael J. Duffy took a conventional path to the law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University–New Brunswick in 2004, then returned to Rutgers for his legal education, receiving a J.D. from Rutgers University–Newark in 2011. Those years at Rutgers shaped his legal training and set him on a course toward practice in the mid-Atlantic region.
After law school, Duffy became admitted to practice in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. That dual admission defines much of his work. It allows him to advise and represent clients whose matters touch both states. He learned early how different state systems can diverge on procedure and substance, and he applies that perspective when evaluating risk and strategy for his clients.
Duffy practices at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads. His role at the firm centers on matters that arise under Pennsylvania and New Jersey law. Colleagues describe him as methodical and clear in his explanations. He takes technical points and breaks them down so clients and opposing counsel can understand the stakes and the possible paths forward.
His background at Rutgers feeds into a pragmatic approach. He tends to prioritize early analysis and targeted steps. That can mean narrowing issues before moving to protracted dispute, or it can mean preparing a concise record when litigation is unavoidable. In either case, he aims to make the legal position accessible to nonlawyers while keeping sight of the legal margins that matter in court or in negotiation.
Duffy’s work often involves coordination across state lines. He navigates differing state statutes and administrative frameworks, and he helps clients weigh the choice of forums and timing. He also works with other lawyers inside and outside the firm when matters require specialized knowledge or presence in multiple jurisdictions.
Outside of casework, Duffy’s early career and continuing practice reflect the kinds of steady, detail-oriented efforts that underpin effective representation. He stays engaged with developments in Pennsylvania and New Jersey law that affect his clients’ businesses and obligations. He is available through Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads for legal matters arising in those states.
He currently practices at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads, where his work focuses on legal matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
