About Michael J.
Michael J. Akerson built his legal foundation in New England. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Connecticut College and went on to receive his J.D. from Western New England University School of Law. Those years shaped his analytical approach to legal problems and gave him a grounding in both transactional and litigated work. Classrooms and clinics left him with a practical sense of how law interacts with business and public policy.
He joined the firm that became Reardon, Joyce & Akerson and rose through the ranks to partner. At the firm he has taken on matters that require careful briefing and an eye for procedural detail. Colleagues describe him as a steady presence in the office and the courtroom. His role as partner includes mentoring younger attorneys, overseeing complex files and helping steer litigation strategy at key moments.
Mr. Akerson is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and is also admitted before the D.C. Circuit, the First Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions allow him to accept appellate matters across several federal courts. They also reflect a practice that spans trial and appellate procedure, and that engages with federal questions as well as state-law disputes that may raise broader constitutional or statutory issues.
He spends his time preparing pleadings, drafting appellate briefs and handling court appearances when appeals or federal filings are at stake. He balances written advocacy with in-person argument and coordinates with experts when cases require specialized knowledge. He is a partner at Reardon, Joyce & Akerson, where his practice centers on appellate and federal matters.
