About Michael
Michael Fineman trained as a lawyer at St. John’s University School of Law, earning his J.D. in 2001 after beginning his studies in 1998. He completed a law degree at a time when New York’s courts were navigating post-9/11 changes to criminal procedure and evidence practice. That period shaped his early approach to courtroom work and case handling.
He entered public service immediately after law school. In 2001 he joined the Kings County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney. He spent those years prosecuting cases in Brooklyn courts and learning the rhythms of trial preparation and courtroom procedure. The role gave him front-line experience in investigations, plea negotiations and courtroom advocacy.
By 2005 he shifted into private practice and opened the Law Office of Michael Fineman, Esq. PC. Establishing his own firm marked a change in day-to-day work. He moved from a large prosecutorial office to running a smaller practice where he handled intake, client counseling and case strategy. Managing a solo or small firm required balancing case work with the administrative responsibilities of firm ownership.
Fineman has maintained membership in a professional association since 2002, and he remains active in professional circles. That continuity reflects a sustained engagement with the local legal community and ongoing professional development. Over time he built a practice that engaged with judges, clerks and defense and prosecution attorneys across New York courts.
His practice operates in New York and is shaped by his earlier prosecutorial experience. The move from public office to private practice gives him a broad view of how cases proceed from investigation through resolution. He applies courtroom experience to advise clients on procedural and evidentiary matters, and to shape negotiation strategies.
Today he leads the Law Office of Michael Fineman, Esq. PC, overseeing casework and client relations. His practice is based in New York and continues to serve clients in state courts. He currently focuses his practice on matters arising in New York courts.
