About Michael

Michael DeMatt combined a liberal arts undergraduate education with formal legal training, earning a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Delaware in 1995 and a J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2000. His path through English studies and law school shaped a practice built on close reading, careful writing and disciplined analysis. Those habits show up in his approach to legal problems and client work.

After law school he began practicing in Pennsylvania. He is admitted to the bar in that jurisdiction and has built a career there. Over time he has handled matters that require detailed legal research and clear written advocacy. He approaches casework the way a reader approaches a difficult text: identifying key facts, tracing how law applies, and setting out an argument in plain language.

Colleagues and clients often note his methodical preparation. He tends to work through issues in stages. He frames questions, digs into statutory and case law, and prepares straightforward explanations. That style can be useful in litigation, regulatory matters and transactional reviews where paperwork and precedent matter as much as strategy.

DeMatt’s background in English literature also informs his communication style. He favors precise sentences and careful organization. That carries over into pleadings, contracts and client memoranda. It also shapes how he manages fact investigation and witness preparation. The emphasis is on clarity: clear theories, clear documents, clear next steps.

Outside the office he has remained connected to the legal community in Pennsylvania. He has worked with local practitioners and has contributed written work for internal firm use and client advisories. He has kept current on changes in state law that affect the kinds of matters he handles and has adapted practice procedures accordingly.

As of 2026 he maintains a practice in Pennsylvania and concentrates on matters that call for meticulous legal research, disciplined drafting and practical problem solving. He continues to rely on the analytical skills developed in his undergraduate and law school studies as the foundation for his ongoing legal work.
