About Michael Charles
Michael Charles Cimasi returned to Buffalo after an early interest in history and public service. He earned a B.A. in Early Modern European History from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2002. He later completed graduate and professional studies at the same university, obtaining a J.D. from SUNY Buffalo Law School and an M.A. in Sociology in 2013.
Cimasi's early practical work began while he was still a student. In 2011 he served as director of SBI Legal Assistance at SUNY Buffalo, overseeing student-run assistance efforts. The following year he worked as a judicial clerk-intern at the U.S. Immigration Court in Buffalo, an experience that exposed him to federal immigration proceedings and courtroom procedure.
After law school he moved into private practice. In 2014 he founded Cimasi Law Office. He has also taken on roles in local government. Since 2015 he has been a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Amherst, New York, where he participates in municipal land-use matters and local hearings.
Cimasi maintains a presence in several professional organizations. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and he belongs to the Erie County Bar Association. He has been active in volunteer work through the Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project, serving as a Lawyer of the Morning volunteer since 2014. His memberships include the New York State Defenders Association and the St. Thomas More Guild.
He is licensed to practice in New York and is a qualified notary public for Erie County, appointed by the New York State Department of State. The combination of student legal assistance leadership, an internship in the immigration court, municipal board service, and ongoing volunteer work has given him a varied practice profile.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and attentive to municipal process. He keeps his practice local, balancing private client work with public service roles and pro bono availability through area legal aid projects.
Cimasi continues to operate Cimasi Law Office in Amherst and handles matters in New York state courts while remaining active in volunteer legal programs and local government boards as part of his current practice focus.
