About Michael

Michael Brownlee earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Santa Clara University in 2000 and went on to receive his J.D. from Florida State University College of Law. His academic background in English informs a careful approach to legal writing. He brings that craft to appellate work, where precise language matters.

Early in his career he concentrated on issues that arise after trial. Over time he built experience handling briefs, motions and oral argument in higher courts. He is board certified in appellate practice by The Florida Bar, a credential that recognizes specific training and experience in appeals. That certification sits at the center of his professional identity.

Mr. Brownlee is admitted to practice in Florida and holds admissions to multiple federal courts of appeals. Those include the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits, as well as the Federal Circuit. He appears in both state and federal appellate forums and works on matters that require careful preservation of issues and clear presentation of legal standards.

At Fisher Rushmer P.A. he conducts appellate advocacy and advises trial teams on preserving records for appeal. He drafts briefs and petitions and presents oral argument when cases proceed to argument. Colleagues describe his approach as methodical and attentive to the record. He often works with litigators who are preparing cases for the next stage of review.

His training in English is not just a credential. It shapes how he organizes legal analysis. He tends to favor structure over ornament. Arguments are mapped so the reader can follow each element of a claim or defense. That emphasis on clarity shows up in the briefs he files and the motions he prepares.

Outside the courtroom, he mentors junior lawyers on appellate technique. He reviews draft briefs and offers practical advice about which issues to press. He also advises on federal appellate procedure and strategy, particularly in multi-jurisdiction matters that require coordination across circuits.

He maintains an active appellate practice at Fisher Rushmer P.A., representing clients in state and federal appeals. His current practice centers on appellate litigation, briefing and oral argument in state and federal courts.
