About Michael
Michael Avanesian built a path from mathematics and computer science into the practice of law. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science from California State University, Los Angeles in 2003, followed by an M.S. in Pure Mathematics from the same campus in 2005. He finished his legal training at Southwestern Law School, receiving his J.D. in 2008.
After law school, Avanesian entered private practice and spent several years as an associate attorney. In 2012 he worked at the Law Offices of Michael Jay Berger and that same year joined the Law Offices of David A. Tilem. He later became a partner at JT Legal Group in 2016. In 2022 he founded Avian Law Group, establishing his own firm after a decade-plus of practice in the Los Angeles area.
Avanesian practices in California and has repeatedly positioned himself in areas tied to bankruptcy and consumer insolvency. His involvement with the Central District Bankruptcy Court — serving on a Chapter 7 Limited Scope Ad Hoc Committee since 2014 — points to both courtroom experience and attention to procedural developments. He is also a long-standing member of the Southern California Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, which suggests regular engagement with bankruptcy practitioners and continuing legal education in that subject.
He has maintained steady ties to the Los Angeles legal community. Avanesian has served on the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s LRIS advisory committee since 2014 and has been part of the association’s bankruptcy subcommittee since 2013. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. He also belongs to the Central District Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Association. These memberships reflect ongoing participation in bar governance, referral systems and specialty networks.
Colleagues describe Avanesian as methodical. His academic background in mathematics and computer science informs a precise approach to legal problems. That technical training often surfaces in case preparation and in managing complex schedules and documents. Over time he has handled matters that require attention to statutory deadlines and careful financial analysis.
Today Avanesian leads Avian Law Group. He continues to handle bankruptcy and consumer insolvency matters in California, working through cases that involve Chapter 7 issues, creditor claims and related court procedures.
