About Michael A.
Michael A. Markowitz’s career traces a steady path through litigation rooms and arbitration panels. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Washington University School of Law in 1986 and a Juris Doctor from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1989. Those degrees set the stage for immediate entry into private practice and institutional litigation.
Fresh out of law school he joined Salamon Gruber & Blaymore, PC as an associate in 1989. That early period gave him front-line experience in firm practice. By 1991 he had moved into an in-house role as an assistant litigator at European American Bank. The bank post exposed him to the commercial and regulatory pressures that often underlie business disputes.
Also in 1991 he began operating as a solo practitioner under the name Michael A. Markowitz PC. Over the years he balanced private practice with public-facing roles. In 1998 he accepted an appointment as an arbitrator for the State of New York, a position that added a neutral decision-making perspective to his practice. The combination of advocate and arbitrator roles has shaped a practice style grounded in both dispute resolution and courtroom advocacy.
Markowitz is admitted to practice in New York and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He has maintained ties to the local bar. Since 2013 he has served on the Board of Directors of the Nassau County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Jewish Lawyers Association, a membership he has held since 2010. Those affiliations reflect an ongoing engagement with the professional community rather than ceremonial membership alone.
Clients and colleagues describe a practitioner who brings practical courtroom experience and arbitration familiarity to everyday legal problems. His background encompasses firm work, in-house litigation, solo practice and public arbitration duties. That breadth allows him to assess cases from multiple vantage points — as counsel, as a representative for financial institutions and as an impartial arbitrator.
He continues to practice through Michael A. Markowitz PC, serving matters that draw on litigation and arbitration experience. He maintains bar admission in New York and the Second Circuit and remains active in local bar organizations, focusing his current practice on litigation and arbitration matters.
