About Michael A.
Michael A. Hackard began his legal path at California State University, Sacramento, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1972. He completed his legal education at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1976. Those years set the stage for a long career in private practice across multiple states.
Immediately after law school, Hackard entered private practice. Records show he worked in various law offices starting in 1976. Over the next decades he maintained a private practice identity, returning repeatedly to the solo practitioner model. In 2009 he became the sole shareholder of Hackard Law Corporation, a step that formalized his independent practice under a firm name.
His admissions reflect a willingness to serve clients in different jurisdictions. He is licensed to practice in California, Arizona and Illinois. That multi-state authorization has shaped the range of matters he has handled and the professional communities he joined.
Professional memberships populate much of Hackard’s résumé. He is a current member of the Sacramento County Bar Association and has been a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association since 2010. He joined the Bar Association of San Francisco in 2013 and maintains that membership. Nationally focused groups also appear: he has been listed as a lifetime member of both the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multimillion Dollar Advocates Forum since 2013. Earlier in his career he belonged to the American Trial Lawyers Association from 1995 to 2003.
Outside the courtroom, Hackard took on a public-facing role in 2008 when he served as spokesman for the Homebuilders Coalition for Responsible Bank Behavior, a position he held into 2009. That role placed him at the intersection of advocacy and public policy for a narrowly defined period and added a civic dimension to his practice during that time.
Over the years Hackard has balanced solo practice with participation in bar associations and legal advocacy groups. He has kept his work rooted in private practice while maintaining connections across county and state lines. His trajectory shows a lawyer who chose the independent route and sustained it for decades.
As of 2026 he continues to practice through Hackard Law Corporation, handling matters consistent with a long-standing private practice and memberships in trial and advocacy organizations. His current practice focuses on serving clients through his firm, Hackard Law Corporation.
