About Michael A.

Michael A. Gerstein earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1976. He followed that degree with an LL.M. in Tax from Boston University School of Law, completed in 1978. Those two academic milestones established a clear interest in tax law early in his career and laid the groundwork for decades of practice in Massachusetts.

He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and has remained active in the bar community there. He currently serves as president of the Haverhill Bar Association and maintains membership in the Massachusetts Bar Association. His peers know him through those local and statewide connections rather than through public litigation headlines.

Gerstein’s academic background in tax lends itself to work that is detailed and technical. Over the years he has handled matters that require an understanding of federal and state tax rules, planning strategies, and compliance issues. He has advised on income tax questions and helped clients interpret complex statutory provisions. His work tends to involve careful analysis and the application of tax principles to concrete problems.

Colleagues describe his approach as methodical. He takes the time to sort through facts and explain the legal landscape in practical terms. That practical bent shows in how he participates in bar activities too: leading meetings, organizing educational events, and helping other lawyers navigate procedural and ethical questions at the local level.

Gerstein’s career spans a period of substantial change in tax law and practice. He entered the profession after earning his J.D. in the mid‑1970s and gained further specialization with his LL.M. in the late 1970s. The combination of longstanding membership in professional organizations and a postgraduate tax degree has shaped how he practices today.

He keeps a local orientation. Much of his work is conducted within Massachusetts, where he handles tax‑related matters for individuals and small businesses, assists with tax planning and compliance, and participates in bar governance. He currently concentrates his practice on tax law and related matters in Massachusetts.
