About Melissa Hill
Melissa Hill Doss earned her J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2012 after completing her legal studies earlier in that decade. Her time in law school prepared her for immediate immersion in courtroom work and legal research. She moved into clerkships that gave her a front-row view of litigation and judicial decision-making.
Her early career consisted of several clerkships that shaped her understanding of court procedure. In 2010 she worked at Dressman Benzinger LaVelle. The following year she clerked for Judge Mary Katherine Huffman, a role that exposed her to the judicial process and the mechanics of trials and written opinions. Also in 2011 she clerked for Lawrence & Associates, rounding out a period of hands-on experience in both bench and firm settings.
Those clerkships fed into later professional roles and community involvement. Doss has been active in local business and legal circles. She was president of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Business Referral Network from 2012 to 2013. She then took on a longer leadership role in BNI, serving as president beginning in 2014 and continuing to hold that position. Her memberships have included the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Bar Association, the Kentucky Justice Association, the Northern Kentucky Bar Association and the NKBA Women Lawyers Section during the 2011–2014 period. These affiliations reflect a mix of civic, referral and professional connections rather than a single institutional focus.
Colleagues describe her background as practical. Her record shows substantial exposure to court calendars, motion practice and the drafting of bench-level opinions from the perspective of a clerk. She has also spent time at private firms where client intake and case preparation were daily tasks. That blend of bench-side observation and firm-side work informs how she approaches legal problems, from early case assessment to procedural planning.
Doss practices in Kentucky. She applies the procedural knowledge she gained from clerkships and firm work to represent clients and manage cases. Her day-to-day work involves courtroom preparation, legal research and client communication. She currently practices law in Kentucky, applying her courtroom and firm experience to client representation.
