About Melissa Deann

Melissa Deann Fanoe trained as a writer before she trained as a lawyer. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in English, then continued her studies at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where she earned her J.D. in 2010. Those years shaped how she approaches legal work: careful drafting, attention to narrative, and an eye for detail.

After finishing law school, Fanoe began her legal career in California. Early roles included courtroom work and client counseling, where she learned the practical rhythms of litigation and client service. She has spent much of her time working directly with individuals and small businesses, handling the everyday problems that bring people to an attorney’s door.

Her background in English complements legal practice. She writes pleadings and contracts with an emphasis on clarity. She prepares witnesses and distills complex documents into plain language for clients. Colleagues say she is methodical. Opposing counsel have described her as precise. Those traits have guided her through a range of matters in state courts and administrative settings.

Fanoe moved into solo practice to offer more direct access to clients. Running a small office sharpened her administrative skills as well as her legal ones. She manages case intake, client communications, and the litigation calendar. That contact with all sides of the practice helps her tailor legal strategies to the resources and needs of each client.

Her work is localized to California. She represents clients from intake through resolution, whether that resolution comes by negotiated agreement or court decision. She emphasizes plainspoken explanations of legal options, cost considerations, and likely timelines. Those are the conversations that often determine a client’s next step.

Outside the office she has continued professional development and kept up with changes in state practice and procedure. She maintains professional relationships across the California legal community and draws on those connections when cases require outside expertise. She currently practices through the Law Office of Melissa Fanoe, representing clients in California.
