About Melissa
Melissa Bowman built a methodical path into the law. She began her undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama–Huntsville and completed a B.A. at Auburn University in 2011, where she studied professional writing, literary studies and theatre. Those two strands — writing and performance — later informed how she approaches legal work. She earned her J.D. from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in 2015.
Her legal career took shape at Meriwether and Tharp. Bowman joined the firm as an associate in 2016. In that role she assumed responsibility for client-facing matters and for drafting key court papers. Over several years she handled a mix of assignments that expanded her practical experience and exposed her to the firm’s workflows.
In 2023 she moved into a partner role. The change formalized years of steady advancement inside the same firm. As partner she took on additional duties that include supervising case strategy and mentoring junior lawyers. She also participates in internal decision-making about how the firm allocates resources on complex matters.
Bowman’s background in professional writing and theatre is a recurring theme in her work. The writing training supports legal drafting and persuasive advocacy on the page. The theatre experience informs oral presentation — the way she organizes an argument and delivers it in court or at a negotiation table. Colleagues describe her as precise in written work and measured when speaking; she rarely overloads a point and prefers clear, direct explanations to jargon.
She is licensed to practice in Georgia. That jurisdiction frames the geography of most of her practice and the clients she serves. The records show a continuous tenure at Meriwether and Tharp from 2016 into the present, culminating in partnership in 2023.
Outside the office she keeps ties to the university communities where she studied, although she does not hold an academic appointment. Her career traces a steady through line: early focus on communication, formal legal training completed in 2015, and progressive responsibility at a single firm. She currently focuses her practice at Meriwether & Tharp, LLC, handling matters for clients in Georgia.
