About Melanie
Melanie Hubbard studied art and psychology at Pennsylvania State University’s Schreyer Honors College, earning a B.A. in Integrative Arts in 2003. She moved into law soon after and received her J.D. from George Mason University School of Law in 2007. The combination of an arts-and-psychology background and a law degree shapes the way she approaches client problems. She balances analytical thinking with attention to people.
After law school she established her practice in Virginia. She is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division. Those credentials allow her to appear in both state and federal proceedings when circumstances require it. Her professional memberships include the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section, the Fairfax Bar Association, and the Virginia Women Lawyers Association.
Hubbard’s day-to-day work centers on family law. She handles divorce cases, custody and visitation disputes, child and spousal support matters, and related domestic-relations issues. She represents clients in negotiation and settlement talks as well as in contested hearings. Courtroom work is part of the practice when settlements cannot be reached, and she prepares filings and arguments for both interim hearings and final resolutions.
Colleagues and clients describe her as practical and direct. She tends to break complex legal questions into manageable steps and to explain trade-offs plainly. That approach is useful in family matters, where emotions and long-term consequences converge. She often assists clients in developing realistic timelines and in understanding what evidence and testimony will matter most if a case proceeds to trial.
Beyond casework, Hubbard maintains active ties to the local bar. Her membership in the Fairfax Bar Association keeps her connected to peers across practice areas. Participation in the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section provides access to continuing education and rule updates that affect family-court practice. Her involvement in the Virginia Women Lawyers Association reflects an interest in legal-community networks that address professional issues facing women attorneys.
She is currently a principal at Malinowski Hubbard, PLLC, where she carries a caseload comprised chiefly of family-law matters. She practices family law at Malinowski Hubbard, PLLC, representing clients in divorce, custody, and related family-law matters.
