About Megan

Megan Smith earned her law degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, receiving her J.D. in 2018 after beginning her studies in 2015. She completed her undergraduate work at Michigan State University, where she graduated with a B.A. in 2014. Those formative years in Michigan higher education set the stage for a legal career centered in the state.

She entered the profession soon after law school and took on roles that exposed her to different firm environments. Early in her career she was an associate at Tanis Schultz PLLC. That position gave her day-to-day courtroom and client work experience. She later joined Grabel & Associates as an associate lawyer and has continued there, moving into responsibilities typical for mid-level attorneys.

Smith maintains memberships in several professional organizations. She is a current member of the State Bar of Michigan. She also holds membership in the American Bar Association and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. Those memberships keep her connected to peers and to continuing legal education opportunities in the region.

Colleagues describe her work as steady and thorough. She handles client matters that require hands-on attention and follows through on procedural and substantive tasks. Her file work shows an attention to deadlines and document detail. In meetings she tends to be precise and direct, traits clients and co-counsel have noted in routine interactions.

Her trajectory reflects a common path through a state legal market: undergraduate study in Michigan, law school at an in-state institution, and then associate roles at regional firms. The record shows a practitioner who has preferred to build experience at smaller local firms rather than move into large national firms or public office. That choice has kept her practice rooted in local court systems and client networks.

Today she practices at Grabel & Associates. She continues in the role of associate lawyer there and remains active in the State Bar of Michigan and regional bar groups. Her current practice is based at Grabel & Associates, where she works as an associate attorney handling the matters the firm accepts.
