About Medya
Medya Ansari earned her J.D. from New England Law | Boston in 2017, where she studied immigration and criminal law. The law school training gave her a foundation in how immigration and criminal issues can overlap. She took courses that emphasized courtroom procedure and client advocacy while concentrating on matters that later defined her practice.
She joined Getachew & Ansari Immigration Lawyers, P.C. and became a managing partner in 2018. In that capacity she has been part of the firm's leadership since then. Her work has involved advising clients on immigration pathways and handling matters that frequently require coordination between immigration and criminal law principles.
Outside the firm, Ansari became active in the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Since 2022 she has served as Secretary and Asylum Liaison for the Santa Clara Valley Chapter. Those chapter roles involve administrative responsibilities for the local group and a specific role addressing asylum-related issues within the chapter's work.
Ansari's practice centers on immigration law and the points where it intersects with criminal law. She assists clients through immigration processes that can be affected by criminal history, policy changes, or procedural hurdles. Her background equips her to address both statutory immigration claims and procedural defenses that arise when criminal matters impact immigration status.
Colleagues describe her as methodical in case preparation and practical in courtroom settings. She approaches each matter by assessing legal options and procedural timing. That approach is useful in asylum interviews, removal defense, family-based petitions, and cases that require coordination with criminal defense counsel.
At Getachew & Ansari Immigration Lawyers, P.C., Ansari continues to manage firm matters and represent individuals and families on immigration issues. She maintains her chapter responsibilities at AILA while handling a caseload that reflects the intersection of immigration and criminal law. Her current practice focuses on immigration matters where criminal law issues are also present.
