About Maxwell James
Maxwell James Goss studied history at Western Michigan University before heading to Notre Dame Law School for his J.D. The early focus on historical analysis shaped the way he reads precedent and frames arguments. He trained in an environment that prized close attention to texts and careful reasoning.
After law school he moved into practice and into extracurricular leadership. He has served as president of the Texas Exes-Michigan Chapter since 2015, a role that combines alumni engagement and event organization. That leadership role predates his decision to open his own firm and reflects an interest in institutional life outside the courtroom.
In 2016 Goss founded Maxwell Goss Law and has operated the firm as owner and lawyer since then. The firm serves clients in both Texas and Michigan, and Goss is licensed to practice in those two jurisdictions. Running a small firm has meant handling matters across several stages of litigation and managing practice operations day to day.
Goss maintains active involvement in bar and professional groups. He has been a member of the Civil Procedure and Courts Committee of the State Bar of Michigan since 2018. That committee work keeps him tied to developments in procedural rules and court practice. He is a barrister in the Michigan Intellectual Property Inns of Court, also since 2018, which signals sustained engagement with intellectual property practitioners. He serves on the Michigan Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, a post he has held since 2016. He is a barrister in the OCBA Inns of Court, and continues his role leading the Texas Exes-Michigan Chapter.
Those memberships reflect the mix of interests that mark his practice. His work has included civil litigation, intellectual property matters and civil-rights related issues. Courtroom experience and committee work inform how he approaches filings and hearings. He balances casework with contributions to professional organizations, where rule-making and ethical discussions are frequent topics.
In the office Goss handles client intake, strategy and courtroom appearances. He divides his time between cases in Michigan and Texas and manages the business side of a solo practice. He currently focuses his practice on civil litigation, intellectual property and civil-rights matters.
