About Maureen Berard
Maureen Berard Soles moved quickly from law school into some of the highest corridors of the appellate world. She graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2011 after earning a B.A. from LaSalle University in 2004. The pace of her early career reflected her choices: clerkship, private practice, another clerkship, then a return to firm life.
Her first federal clerkship came in 2011, when she served the Honorable Anthony J. Scirica on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. That year introduced her to the rhythms of appellate work and the demands of federal opinion writing. In 2012 she joined Sidley Austin LLP as an associate. The move to Sidley placed her in a large firm environment where she handled complex matters alongside veteran litigators.
In 2013 she returned to the bench as a law clerk to the Honorable Samuel A. Alito, Jr. at the Supreme Court of the United States. The Supreme Court clerkship is often short and intense. It brought her into the center of high-stakes legal questions and gave her experience on the nation’s highest tribunal.
After the Court, she again practiced at Sidley Austin as an associate in 2014. The record shows a pattern of alternating between appellate clerkships and private practice, a sequence that sharpened both her courtroom writing and her case-management skills. In 2021 she became a partner at Baker & Hostetler LLP. That promotion marked a transition to firm leadership and greater responsibility for client matters and team supervision.
She is admitted in Florida, the District of Columbia and Maryland, and she holds admissions to practice in the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She is a current member of the Florida State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar and the Maryland State Bar. These memberships track a practice that operates in multiple federal and state venues.
Colleagues and court records reflect an attorney who is comfortable in appellate briefing and federal litigation. Her background combines appellate clerkships at both a federal circuit and the Supreme Court with years of firm-side litigation experience. She practices at Baker & Hostetler LLP, where she concentrates on appellate work and litigation in federal courts.
