About Matthew
Matthew Williams trained as a historian before he trained as a lawyer. He earned a B.A. in history from Ohio State University, followed by a J.D. from Cleveland State University in 2013. Those academic years set the groundwork for a career that has moved between the courthouse, solo practice and private firm work.
His first position after law school took him into the appellate world. In 2013 he served as a judicial lawyer at the Ohio Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Appellate District. That role put him inside the appellate process, working on briefs, opinions and the mechanics of review. It was a short but formative chapter that left him comfortable with appellate procedure and the cadences of written argument.
In 2014 he launched a solo practice under the name Matt Williams LLC. Running a solo practice required him to handle a wide mix of matters. He managed client intake, drafted pleadings, argued in trial courts and handled appeals when needed. That period deepened his practical courtroom experience and sharpened his skills in legal writing and case strategy.
In 2016 he joined Valore & Gordillo, LLP as of counsel. The position marked a return to a collaborative firm setting while allowing him to draw on the varied work he had done as a solo practitioner and at the appellate court. At the firm he has worked on matters that span trial and appellate levels and has contributed to case development and courtroom preparation.
Williams maintains professional ties in the Ohio legal community. He has been a member of the Ohio Bar Association since 2013 and joined the West Shore Bar Association in 2014. Those memberships have kept him connected to local practitioners and to continuing legal education opportunities.
His background blends appellate experience, solo-practice responsibilities and firm-based work. That mix informs how he approaches a case: attention to legal research and writing, plus the practical needs of clients in court. He is licensed to practice in Ohio and serves as of counsel at Valore & Gordillo, LLP. His current practice concentrates on appellate and trial-level matters in Ohio.
