About Matthew W.
Matthew W. Odgers studied political science at Purdue University, earning a B.A. in 2003 before turning to law. He completed his J.D. at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2012. While at law school he earned a Certificate in Global Studies and a Certificate of Achievement for completing 750 pro bono hours. Those early commitments to service surfaced often in his subsequent career.
After law school, Odgers began practicing in California. In 2013 he opened Odgers Law Group and maintained memberships in several professional organizations, including Wealth Counsel and the San Diego County Bar Association. He also became involved in local civic networks and continued to log pro bono work alongside his private practice.
His involvement in bar and community groups extended beyond membership. From 2016 to 2017 he served as Vice Chair of the ABA Young Lawyers Division Health Care Law Committee. He joined the board of the North County Chamber of Commerce Emerging Leaders in 2016 and has remained active there. He also served on the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Alumni Association board from 2018 to 2019. These roles reflect an interest in professional development and community engagement rather than ceremonial titles.
In 2021 Odgers moved into a firm partnership at Opelon LLP, described as a Trusts, Estates, & Probate law office. That transition followed years of handling matters commonly associated with estate planning and administration. His practice covers legal tasks typical to trusts and estates work, and he has experience guiding clients through probate processes. The shift to a firm focused on estates allowed him to work alongside peers who concentrate on the same area of law.
Colleagues and clients describe Odgers as pragmatic and detail-oriented in his approach. He favors clear communication and steady case management. His record includes sustained professional membership and leadership activity, and his law school pro bono certificate remains a frequent reference point for his volunteer work.
Today he is a partner at Opelon LLP and continues to practice in California. His current work centers on trusts, estates, and probate matters.
