About Matthew T.
Matthew T. Marin completed a sequence of degrees that built both legal and business foundations. He earned a B.A. in Management from Clark University in 2004, followed by an MBA from the University of Rhode Island in 2008 and a J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2008. Those credentials shaped the early arc of his career.
He began practicing law in 2008. That year he established the Law Offices of Matthew Marin and also served in a Rule 9 capacity at the Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General. The combination of private practice and public-sector work provided exposure to court procedure and case management at an early stage.
Over the next decade he expanded his practice and his partnerships. In 2019 he became a partner at Marin and Barrett, Inc. The firm operates multiple offices across Rhode Island and beyond, and Marin’s work takes him into several of those locations. The group also maintains an office presence in Charleston, South Carolina, where Marin is involved in regional matters.
Marin is admitted to practice in four states: Rhode Island, South Carolina, Connecticut and Massachusetts. He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association, and he maintains memberships in national criminal defense organizations. Those affiliations reflect the kinds of cases he typically handles in court.
His practice includes criminal defense work and DUI cases. He holds membership in the National College for DUI Defense and a lifetime membership with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Since 2017 he has been active in the Rhode Island Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those memberships inform his courtroom approach and provide continuing legal education opportunities.
Colleagues note that Marin brings both legal training and business sense to case planning. The MBA and management background influence how he runs litigation teams and client files. He has worked in solo practice and within a multi-office firm structure, giving him experience with different practice models.
Today Marin divides his time between the offices of Marin and Barrett, Inc. and affiliated offices in Rhode Island, Connecticut and South Carolina. He represents clients in criminal and DUI matters across those jurisdictions and continues to participate in professional associations related to criminal defense.
