About Matthew
Matthew Swanger built his legal foundation on two coasts. He earned a B.S. in political science from the University of Oregon, completing that degree in 2014. He then went on to Baylor Law School, where he received his J.D. in 2017. Those academic steps shaped his approach to law: attentive to facts, aware of policy, and ready for courtroom work.
After law school he began practicing in Texas. He is admitted to the Texas bar and has handled matters in the state's courts. Early in his career he put classroom lessons to practical use, adapting legal research and drafting skills to the daily demands of client work. He learned to translate complex legal questions into clear options clients could act on.
His undergraduate training in political science informs how he frames issues for clients. It also influences how he prepares cases, especially when statutory interpretation or governmental procedures are at play. At the same time, his Baylor Law education provided practical training in litigation and transactional work. Those combined experiences left him comfortable in both written advocacy and oral argument.
Colleagues describe him as methodical. He tends to break problems into discrete steps and then work through them. That approach shows up in how he prepares for hearings and negotiations. He emphasizes thorough preparation: assembling records, identifying controlling authorities, and mapping out realistic outcomes. He does not rely on rhetorical flourish. Instead he builds arguments on evidence and precedent.
Over time he has balanced courtroom appearances with counseling clients outside of litigation. That mix keeps the work varied. It also gives him perspective on when litigation is necessary and when negotiation or other alternatives are better. He works with individuals and entities that need guidance on matters governed by Texas law.
He maintains his practice in Texas, representing clients in state matters and advising them on legal options under Texas law.
